FAQ

Below you can find a list of the most common questions we receive about our Christmas carolers and entertainment options, including pricing, packages, song lists, and much more!

How far in advance should I hire Olde Towne Carolers?

Contact us for booking as soon as you have your dates set for your event – the earlier in the year, the better. We get the majority of our inquiries in August and September, and by the time December arrives, we are usually quite booked for the season. However, we have been able to fit in last-minute inquiries in the past, so always try!

Will the singers be loud enough without microphones?

Yes. Our a cappella ensembles, comprised of professional, trained singers, can project beautifully in homes and mid-sized venues. For very large or outdoor spaces, we can advise on simple amplification so every guest can enjoy the music. To get an idea of our volume, please check out our Videos, which show us performing in a variety of locations.

What kind of repertoire does Olde Towne Carolers perform?

We perform a vast selection of holiday songs and carols – from sacred to secular, from old to new, covering many cultures and languages. In addition to well-known standards, we also include rare gems that are not as frequently heard. We also specialize in Austrian and German Christmas carols. See our Song List for a sampling of our repertoire.

Can I choose the songs or request a certain style?

Absolutely. Our extensive songbook covers both beloved carols and modern Christmas favorites, and we can lean more secular or more sacred to fit your audience. You may also request specific songs. If you let us know a specific song request in advance, we will work to have that piece in place for your holiday event. We can even organize our music into special groups or themes if you would like us to – just let us know ahead of time. If you or one of your guests requests a piece while the event is going on, we will definitely perform it if it is in our book!

What if the weather is bad for an outdoor event?

If you’re planning an outside event, we advise having a weather contingency plan, either via an open-air canopy or moving our performance inside. In the event of cancellation due to a weather emergency, the client’s deposit will be forwarded for use on a future, mutually-agreed upon performance date. No refunds are issued due to cancellation.

Are you insured and venue-ready?

Yes. We carry event insurance and can send a copy of our Certificate of Insurance for your records. For an additional fee, we can provide a COI naming your organization as an additional insured on our policy.

Why should I hire Olde Towne Carolers over another nationwide caroling company or a small local group?

Here’s a little secret of many so-called “nationwide” caroling companies: they book jobs all over the country and then simply subcontract to local groups to do the performance. If you book with one of these companies, you don’t know who is actually going to show up for your event – or if they even show up at all.

Here’s how to spot red flags on these large companies’ websites:

  • Does the website lack photos and videos of the group performing?
  • Do the same four people seem to be in every photo?
  • Do they fail to show who their singers in each area actually are?

Conversely, if you try to hire a small local group in your area, it’s likely they will only have limited dates available – after all, four singers can only do so many jobs during the holidays! And smaller groups have their own issues with reliability.

Olde Towne Carolers maintains an in-house company of 150+ auditioned, vetted professional singers – including unique groups in each region – which means we can cover multiple jobs on every day of the Christmas season. We also provide our singers’ photos and biographies, as well as photos and videos proving our performance ability. We offer a ton of reviews from clients spanning the past two decades. With Olde Towne Carolers, you get top-tier talent, flawless costumes, proven reliability, and stress-free planning — protecting both your event and your reputation.

Can I hire more than one service or caroling group for my Christmas party?

You can hire as many services or groups as you need! Also, you can hire holiday carolers in the quantity you wish (trio, quartet, quintet…even octet!). Very often we will be asked to send out a caroling group and a brass quartet to the same party. Or our Vocalist with Piano duo can switch off with the carol singers during a long event. We can even send multiple caroling groups if your event is large or longer than four hours.

Will Olde Towne Carolers travel for a performance?

Olde Towne Carolers is always willing to travel for an event. We have dedicated singers in Philadelphia, Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton (Lehigh Valley), New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. Please keep in mind that traveling outside of these areas will involve an additional travel fee. Fee is based upon how much driving is involved to get to the event locations.

How long is a typical caroling booking?

The majority of our engagements are 1-2 hours long. But some are substantially longer than that. Any performance over an hour long will include breaks for our musicians. Even the most enthusiastic Christmas carolers need a rest!

What kind of training do your musicians have?

All of our carol singers are professional musicians. Most have multiple college degrees in music and all perform professionally in the region in various performance groups. Founder Jennifer Graf-Domijan personally selects every singer through select auditions and from her various professional musical ventures. None of our bookings are out-sourced to other caroling companies; every singer is a directly chosen member of Olde Towne Carolers.  All of our Christmas carolers and musicians are talented, hard-working, and trustworthy. See our Performers page for specific details about everyone’s education and experience.

Where does Olde Towne Carolers get their Victorian Christmas caroler costumes?

Our caroling costumes are truly unique! The majority of our costumes are hand-made by Lynn Graf, mother of our group’s founder. Additional costumes have been made by the talented Kate Nealley, whom Jennifer has worked with in many theatrical productions in the area. We are very grateful for their hard work and time!

We loved Olde Towne Carolers! Where can we get a recording so we can hear you again?

Olde Towne Carolers released a promotional EP, Sing We Noel, in late 2016!  The album can be found on retailers such as Amazon and iTunes. (Or search for it on Spotify!) Many of our carol singers are featured on Jennifer Graf’s CD release Echoes of Christmas Past. You can also hear Jennifer, with accompanist Terry Musselman, on Ms. Graf’s CD Tidings of Christmas. Selections from all three CDs are available on our Audio page.
